Everything to like. Nothing to dislike.
This may sound blasphemous…
…but sometimes I wonder if God created the concept of ambivalence as an autopilot mechanism for answering prayers.
Well, see… many-a-times when people say that their prayers are answered, they are actually seeing the silver lining in their dark cloud. And see again, nothing in this world was created perfect; everything has its positives and negatives. I mean, zillions of people pray to God every moment, how does He manage? (Well, of course I am imagining all this using my mortal capacity. Perhaps to God managing quadrillions of prayers per second comes as naturally as our breathing.) But assuming His world functions similarly with ours, He may have simply created a human world in which answers are everywhere for the intelligent us to find, so that He does not need to micro-manage every single detail unless absolutely necessary. Consequently, His prayer-answering process becomes more efficient.
Alright, that was me channelling Freakonomics.
Let’s look at it another way, uneconomically. Maybe the act of God answering prayers is simply to help us see, acknowledge and accept the existence of these positives in the midst of all the negatives. Freakonomics or not, the fact is, He has planted the positives EVERYWHERE.
Ok. I like this conclusion.

I think I can finally put my finger on what’s so appealing about these little furry creatures — it’s their innocent precociousness and how satisfied they are as they watch events unravel, while not necessarily being able to make full sense of what the implications are.
These creatures exist inside of Reality. But the great thing about them is that they are encapsulated in blessed bubbles of oblivion, which keep them Reality-proof. Kids grow too big for these bubbles and burst out of them ultimately, and end up getting soaked and maybe a little too involved for their own good. These little ones, on the other hand, never seem to outgrow them. Harsh sounds from outside are muffled when one is inside of these bubbles. Reality’s merely that stranger going about his business every day in the neighbourhood.
So can we play now?

恭喜发财 everyone.
This one is just for Tumblr. You can tell because I am in my pyjamas. (I just had to teach my computer the spelling Pyjamas, after it corrected it to pajamas)
For the fact that:
1. His handwriting in Chinese is so brilliant; and
2. He spells ‘pyjamas’ as ‘pyjamas’,
I’m in love.
I have a copy of this book going spare and I was thinking of doing some kind of contest/giveaway, is anyone interested? I guess if you are… like this so I can gauge interest :)
Birthday Stories is a collection of twelve short stories chosen by Haruki (including one of his own - Birthday Girl) and it also has an introduction by Murakami.
Absolutely. Who would say no? ;-)

So, I broke down and bought a uke yesterday. Learnt my first song this arvo and here’s a bedroom recording of it!
This recording comes complete with boo-boos, but since someone once said that nobody expects to take you seriously when you’re singing along to a uke, I’d say, hey, those bloopers are all part of the uke experience, ok? ;-P ‘Twas all done in good fun, and yes, it WAS fun!
